Product Description

CEDAZOLE 1gr Tablet

Generic Name: Secnidazole 1000 mg
Family: Antiprotozoal and Nitroimidazole Antimicrobial

Product Description:
CEDAZOLE contains Secnidazole, a long-acting nitroimidazole antimicrobial agent used in the treatment of susceptible protozoal infections and certain anaerobic bacterial infections. It works by disrupting microbial DNA synthesis, helping eliminate susceptible organisms and resolve infection-related symptoms.

Indications:
- Intestinal amoebiasis caused by *Entamoeba histolytica*.
- Giardiasis caused by *Giardia lamblia*.
- Trichomoniasis caused by *Trichomonas vaginalis*.
- Bacterial vaginosis, where approved and clinically appropriate.
- Other susceptible infections as prescribed by a healthcare professional.

Clinical Benefits:
- Provides targeted antimicrobial and antiprotozoal activity.
- Supports the treatment of susceptible intestinal and urogenital infections.
- Its prolonged action may allow convenient short-course treatment for selected infections.
- Helps reduce infection-related symptoms when used appropriately.

Dosage and Administration:
The dose depends on the infection, patient age, and applicable prescribing guidelines. For adults, some indications are treated with a total dose of 2 g (two 1 g tablets) as a single dose, while other infections require different regimens. Amoebic liver abscess may require a multi-day course.

CEDAZOLE 1 g should be administered according to the approved product leaflet and the prescribing clinician’s instructions. Do not assume that one tablet is sufficient for every indication.

Side Effects:
Possible adverse effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, headache, and a metallic or unpleasant taste. Vaginal candidiasis may occur in some patients. Rarely, allergic reactions or neurological symptoms may develop.

Contraindications:
- Known hypersensitivity to secnidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives.
- Avoid use in patients with relevant contraindications specified in the approved product leaflet.
- Patients with a history of blood disorders or neurological disease may require special assessment.

Drug Interactions:
- Alcohol and products containing ethanol or propylene glycol should be avoided during treatment and for at least 48 hours afterward, in accordance with applicable product guidance.
- Warfarin and other oral anticoagulants may require closer monitoring of anticoagulant effects.
- Disulfiram should not be used concurrently without specialist advice.
- Patients should inform their healthcare professional about all medicines and supplements they take.

Use During Pregnancy:
Human safety data are limited. Secnidazole should be used during pregnancy only when a healthcare professional determines that the expected benefit outweighs potential risks. Many product labels advise avoiding use during the first trimester; follow the locally approved prescribing information.

Breastfeeding:
Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with secnidazole and for 96 hours after a single dose under current U.S. product guidance. The decision should be discussed with a healthcare professional, taking the prescribed regimen and local product information into account.
