Alnopin 5 and 10mg tab

Product Description

ALNOPIN 5 mg and 10 mg Tablets
Generic Name: Amlodipine 5 mg / Amlodipine 10 mg

Pharmacological Family: Calcium Channel Blocker (Dihydropyridine)

Product Description: ALNOPIN is an antihypertensive medicine formulated with amlodipine, a long-acting calcium channel blocker used to manage high blood pressure and certain types of angina. It works by relaxing vascular smooth muscle, dilating peripheral arteries, and reducing resistance to blood flow. This action helps lower blood pressure and reduces the workload of the heart.

Indications: ALNOPIN is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, chronic stable angina, and vasospastic (Prinzmetal's) angina. It may also be used in selected patients with coronary artery disease, according to clinical assessment and prescribing guidelines.

Clinical Benefits: ALNOPIN supports sustained blood pressure control with convenient once-daily administration. Its vasodilatory action improves blood flow through the coronary arteries, helps reduce the frequency of angina attacks, and may improve exercise tolerance in patients with angina. Effective blood pressure management can also help reduce the long-term risk of cardiovascular complications.

Mechanism of Action: Amlodipine inhibits the influx of calcium ions through L-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle. This produces arterial vasodilation, reduces systemic vascular resistance, and lowers blood pressure. It also dilates coronary arteries, helping improve myocardial oxygen supply in patients with vasospastic angina.

Dosage and Administration: ALNOPIN is available in 5 mg and 10 mg tablets for oral administration. The usual adult starting dose is 5 mg once daily. Depending on the patient's clinical response and tolerability, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 10 mg once daily. A lower starting dose may be appropriate for elderly patients or those with hepatic impairment. Dosage should be determined by the prescribing healthcare professional. It can generally be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.

Pharmacokinetic Profile: Amlodipine is absorbed orally and has a gradual onset of action. Its long elimination half-life, approximately 30–50 hours, supports sustained blood pressure control over 24 hours with once-daily dosing. It is extensively metabolized in the liver and eliminated mainly as metabolites.

Use in Special Populations: In older adults and patients with liver impairment, dose selection and titration should be cautious. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, use should be based on an individualized medical assessment of potential benefits and risks.

Drug Interactions: Amlodipine may have an additive blood-pressure-lowering effect when combined with other antihypertensive agents. Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors may increase amlodipine exposure, while some CYP3A4 inducers may reduce it. Amlodipine can increase exposure to simvastatin; the simvastatin dose may need to be limited when used concurrently. Grapefruit products may affect exposure in some patients, so professional advice is recommended.

**Common Adverse Effects:** Peripheral edema (swelling of the ankles or feet), headache, dizziness, flushing, palpitations, and fatigue may occur. These effects are often dose-related. Persistent or severe symptoms should be assessed by a healthcare professional.

**Contraindications and Precautions:** ALNOPIN should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to amlodipine or any product ingredient. It should be used cautiously in severe hypotension, certain severe aortic stenosis cases, and patients with significant hepatic impairment. Patients should seek urgent medical attention for new or worsening chest pain, fainting, or signs of a serious allergic reaction.

**Storage:** Store according to the product label, in a dry place at the recommended temperature, protected from excessive heat and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

**Available Strengths:** ALNOPIN 5 mg Tablets and ALNOPIN 10 mg Tablets.
