MONTELIN TAB

Product Description

MONTELIN TABLETS
Generic Name: Montelukast Sodium

Strength: 10 mg Tablet

Dosage Form: Oral Tablet

Drug Classification: Leukotriene Receptor Antagonist

COMPOSITION

Each tablet contains Montelukast Sodium equivalent to Montelukast 10 mg.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

MONTELIN 10 mg Tablets contain montelukast, a selective leukotriene receptor antagonist used for the long-term management of asthma and the relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis. By blocking cysteinyl leukotriene receptors, montelukast helps reduce leukotriene-mediated airway inflammation, bronchoconstriction, and allergic symptoms. It provides an oral treatment option for patients requiring ongoing control of selected allergic and respiratory conditions.

INDICATIONS

MONTELIN 10 mg Tablets are indicated for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma, including prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, and for the relief of symptoms of seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis. It is used as part of an individualized treatment plan according to the patient's clinical needs.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Montelukast selectively blocks the cysteinyl leukotriene type 1 (CysLT1) receptor. Leukotrienes are inflammatory mediators that contribute to airway narrowing, mucus production, vascular permeability, and inflammation. Blocking their action helps improve asthma control and relieve certain allergic symptoms.

CLINICAL BENEFITS

MONTELIN helps support long-term asthma control by reducing leukotriene-mediated bronchoconstriction and inflammation. It may help reduce asthma symptoms and prevent exercise-related airway narrowing. In allergic rhinitis, it can help relieve nasal congestion, sneezing, and a runny or itchy nose. Its oral tablet formulation offers convenient once-daily administration when prescribed.

KEY BENEFITS

• Supports long-term management of asthma.
• Helps prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.
• Relieves symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.
• Targets leukotriene-mediated inflammation.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

The usual dose for adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older is 10 mg once daily, according to the approved indication and prescribing information. For asthma, it is generally taken in the evening. For allergic rhinitis, the timing may be adjusted according to medical advice. Follow the prescribed dose and product instructions.

MONTELIN is not intended to treat an acute asthma attack. Patients should continue their prescribed rescue medication and asthma controller treatment as directed by their healthcare professional. Do not discontinue inhaled corticosteroids or other prescribed asthma medicines without medical advice.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Possible side effects include headache, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, and upper respiratory symptoms. Montelukast has also been associated with serious neuropsychiatric effects, including changes in mood or behavior, sleep disturbances, anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts or behavior. Seek medical advice promptly if new or unusual behavioral or mood changes occur.

CONTRAINDICATIONS AND PRECAUTIONS

MONTELIN should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to montelukast or any formulation ingredient. It should not replace inhaled corticosteroids or rescue medication for acute asthma symptoms. Montelukast carries a significant warning regarding serious neuropsychiatric events. For allergic rhinitis, it is generally reserved for patients who have an inadequate response to or cannot tolerate alternative treatments, following an individualized benefit-risk assessment.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Inform the healthcare professional about all medicines being used. Certain enzyme-inducing medicines, such as rifampicin and some anticonvulsants, may affect montelukast exposure. A healthcare professional should review potential interactions and the patient's complete medication history.

USE DURING PREGNANCY

Use during pregnancy only when clinically indicated and after consultation with a healthcare professional. Treatment decisions should consider asthma control, maternal health, and the potential benefits and risks.

USE DURING BREASTFEEDING

Consult a healthcare professional before use during breastfeeding. The decision should consider the clinical indication and the individual patient's circumstances.
